Cal's year in Beavers

When we moved to England, Laura looked into the possibility of Callum joining Boy Scouts.  Luckily, Boy Scouts was invented in England so although the program names are a bit different, we were still able to get Callum a place in the local Beavers troop when he turned 6. After a few weeks he was inducted and received his neckerchief.

They met every week and he was able to have many adventures.  Callum had his first sleepover at the scout lodge, went on scavenger hunts, learned to ride a bike without training wheels in preparation for a scout cycle day, enjoyed a behind-the-scenes-tour of the local grocery store and cooked food over an open fire.  They took the boys to a local lake in the Cotswolds and they went canoeing.

One weekend they went to Blenheim Palace for the huge campout for all scouts in Oxfordshire called Oxonjam!  Tyler returned home from a work trip late Friday evening so Laura took Callum for half of the day Saturday and then Tyler arrived by lunch time.  There were lots of fun games and things to entertain the kids.  Callum's favorite was quidditch played just like the Harry Potter books but while running around with a broomstick between your legs.

"Smash the Scoutmaster in the face with a wet sponge" game was also a favorite.

4-way group tug-of-war was lots of fun.

They had so many different zones with various activities to keep the kids entertained.  That evening they made dinner and then "slept" as well as you can when camping.

On Sunday they drove back home and Callum was so exhuausted he didn't stay awake for much of the drive.
