Taormina - Views from the cliff top

Taormina is a lovely town perched upon cliffs overlooking the sea and Mt. Etna  north of Catania. Nikki took us up for a day of sightseeing and what a beautiful day it was.  We began with the obligatory granite and brioche in Aci Trezza.

The first site of the day was the Roman theatre with probably the best panoramic backdrop anywhere.

The kids enjoyed tromping around and smashing ants on the ancient stone steps while we took in the views and took lots of photos.

Even the view out the back of the theatre was spectacular.
Afterwards, we ambled down the main street until we came to a restaurant on the corner of a small piazza.
The meal was delicious and on Italian time (3 hour meal).  We sat outside amongst a large family of about 20 who entertained us with their interactions.

Then, we found some gelato and found the viewpoint at the far end of town as the crowds started to really swell for the evening passegiata.

We then drove home to a delicious smoked bbq chicken dinner compliments of  Tyson.  Another great day in paradise.
