The town of Erice is perched upon a
mountain in northwest Sicily just north of the large city of Trapani. It towered above our Airbnb house and we
enjoyed seeing it every time we went outside.
We wound our way around the mountain along the coast before starting the
hairpin climb up the mountain.
Since Claire was still feeling bad
and asleep in the car, Callum and Tyler ventured out looking for a good picnic
spot. Having found a good shady spot
with a view of the old Norman church, they retrieved the girls and we had a
quick bite.
After the picnic, we wandered the old stone streets with hardly a soul to be seen.
By the time we had circled half the city, the kids were all worn out and we luckily spotted a playground next to the big castle. It had quite the view overlooking the valley below and the sea further away.
We haven't lost our selfie skills after all the years.
We came across a jolly gentleman playing the accordion and singing next to the castle. The kids enjoyed watching him perform and making silly noises when people didn't give him any spare change.
We then headed through a few shops before getting gelato and driving home. Apparently, Claire wasn't over her sickness because she didn't hold the ice cream down and was vomiting for another 2 days. :( We bought pizza a porta via that night in town and had a quiet evening at the house playing cards with Callum. His new favorite card game that Tyler taught him was 'war' and they played for several hours on the porch of the house enjoying the nice weather.
