Zion - The Close-up Canyon

We arrived in Zion mid-afternoon to discover a fairly crowded park and gorgeous scenery.  Zion is like the Grand Canyon, but closer and more vibrant.  It feels like you can reach out and touch the multi-color marbled canyon walls.

Our first hike was through the initial portion of 'The Narrows.'  We found a very inquisitive squirrel that liked to invade our personal space and also a young buck across the river.

We made occasional use of the hiking backpack when little Claire was too tuckered out to hike any further.  Unfortunately, that put here right next to Tyler's ears when she loudly complained and cried.

We barely made it back to the shuttle bus before what we thought was the second to last shuttle back up the mile long canyon road to the parking lot.  Luckily, we didn't miss it because it was actually the last shuttle since we hadn't adjusted our watches one hour forward when we crossed from Nevada into Utah.

Our hotel was about a 30 minute drive out the east side of the park and the landscape was other worldly.  It was dusk as we left, so we didn't get a great view until the next morning.

We stumbled upon the some population of bighorn sheep that were native to the canyon as we drove the winding rode in.

We then hiked one of the waterfall trails and had a nice ice cream break at the lodge.

Zion was probably our overall favorite park on the trip because of its stunning, rich colors amd its accessibility and scale.
