We made it to England on Saturday, July 16th, 2016 after a 9 hour flight from Phoenix. Our sponsor picked us up in a hired van and took us back to a hotel in Swindon, the largest city to our new British base.
We all battled the jet lag, but it wasn't as bad as we were expecting. Here are the kids sleeping at 10am after Laura use the blow dryer for 20 minutes right next to them...still out cold.
The next day we ventured out on the city bus and met our friend Tara Morrissey at our future house to borrow their second car. We then proceeded to take our first outing to the giant stone circle in Avebury.
This stone circle dwarfs the more famous Stonehenge, but is several times larger - with a diameter of about 1/2 a mile!
The stones were massive, weighing tens of thousands of pounds. It still boggles the mind to think how they were transported, arranged and put upright in the ground...about 4,000 years ago.
We hiked the full circle passing grazing sheep, new-age hippies playing instruments under an ancient tree and lots of huge boulders.
After the loop, we treated ourselves with some cold ice cream in the quaint town (it was in the high 80's that day and sunny) before exploring the museum.
We then rushed back to make a 4 o'clock tea time at the hotel. We didn't waste any time scheduling our first high tea!
